The NFL Trade Deadline wrapped up yesterday afternoon along with Week 9 in the league. We witnessed several moves by contending teams and some that are looking for a late-season spark to push them into the playoffs. On the field, we had one of the higher scoring weeks in the season, even with two teams on bye. Finally, there were some coaching changes for two teams who have continued to struggle over the last month-plus. Week 10 begins Thursday night with an AFC North battle between Baltimore and Cincinnati.
Top Performers:
Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR, Seattle Seahawks
DK Metcalf was inactive once again for Seattle, creating an opportunity and need for others to step up. The others in Week 9 consisted of one, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Seattle’s 2023 first-round pick went for a career-high 180 receiving yards on seven catches against the Rams and a pair of touchdowns. It was just the third career game with 7 receptions or more for Smith-Njigba, who could be poised for a late-season breakout.
Chase Brown RB, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals were without running back Zack Moss on Sunday, leaving Chase Brown as the lone man in the backfield, literally. Brown was the only running back on the roster to carry the ball against the Raiders. Brown put his workhorse abilities on display, rushing 27 times for 120 yards, both career highs. He also added five receptions for 37 yards in the blowout win.
Garrett Wilson WR, New York Jets
Neither the acquisition of Davante Adams nor the Jets’ struggles have slowed down Garett Wilson this season. He added to his impressive 2024 campaign on Thursday night, hauling in nine receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns, his only game this season with multiple scores. Wilson also made arguably the catch of the year in the second half to help the Jets pick up the win. Wilson is now leading the NFL in receptions with 60 and is third in the league in yards (663).
De’Von Achane RB, Miami Dolphins
Achane has carried the Miami offense since the return of Tua Tagovailoa. Last week against Arizona, Achane ran for 97 yards on just 10 carries and added 50 yards receiving with six catches and a touchdown. That momentum carried over to Week 10. In a close loss to Buffalo, Achane carried the ball 12 times for 63 yards and a touchdown and tallied eight receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown.
Zay Flowers WR, Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore offense continued its explosive play against Denver in Week 9 and so did Zay Flowers. Flowers posted the second most receiving yards in his career (127) on just five catches and found the end zone twice. The performance marks back-to-back 100-yard games for Flowers and his fourth of the season. He had just one 100-yard game in the regular season as a rookie.
Joe Burrow QB, Cincinnati Bengals
The former No. 1 overall pick continued to carry the load offensively for the Bengals on Sunday. Burrow tied a season-high with five touchdown passes against the Raiders and threw for 251 yards and nearly a 70% completion rate. It was Burrow’s fourth game of the season with 250+ yards passing as he and the Bengals look to run the table and earn a playoff spot.
Chargers Defense
The Chargers have flown under the radar all season, currently sitting at 5-3 and second in the AFC West. Their defense was all over the place Sunday as it has been all season. In a 27-10 win over the Browns, the Chargers defense intercepted Jameis Winston three times and sacked him six times. They also held Nick Chubb and company to 79 yards and 3.3 yards per carry on the ground. The Chargers have allowed 20+ points just once this season and have held opponents to 10 points or less in back-to-back games.
Injuries Updates:
Dak Prescott QB, Dallas Cowboys
Prescott left Sunday’s loss to Atlanta in the second half with an injury to his throwing hand and his right hamstring and did not return. The hamstring injury was believed to be severe and tests later confirmed the Cowboys’ fear. Prescott will be placed on the injured reserve Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones announced on Tuesday. Prescott will miss at least 4 games and Cooper Rush will start in his absence.
Drake London WR, Atlanta Falcons
London injured his hip on a play where he scored a 9-yard touchdown in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over Dallas. Shortly after, he was ruled out and did not return to the game. It was reported on Monday that London is believed to have suffered a hip pointer injury. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said on Monday that his injury is day-to-day.
Ceedee Lamb WR, Dallas Cowboys
Lamb sustained a shoulder injury in the second half against the Falcons but was able to return to the game. It was announced that Lamb is dealing with a sprained AC Joint in his right shoulder. However, there is optimism that Lamb will play in Week 10 versus the Eagles.
Chris Olave WR, New Orleans Saints
Olave took a hard hit over the middle in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Panthers resulting in a scary injury. Olave suffered his second concussion in three weeks, was carted off the field on a backboard and was hospitalized before being able to fly home with the team. He’ll have to go through the NFL’s concussion protocol before returning to play but having recently suffered a concussion, it appears unlikely he will play Week 10.
A.J. Brown WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Brown injured his knee at some point in the first half of Philadelphia’s win over Jacksonville Sunday. Just before the second-half kickoff, Brown went back to the locker room and was later ruled out. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Brown avoided a serious injury and is considered day-to-day.
Darnell Wright OT, Chicago Bears
Wright is believed to have sustained a sprained MCL according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport after injuring his knee during Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals. Wright will likely miss a few games because of the injury.
Keon Coleman WR, Buffalo Bills
Buffalo’s rookie receiver injured his wrist late in Sunday’s win over Miami and did not return. As of Monday, head coach Sean McDermott did not have an update on Coleman.
Grady Jarrett DT, Atlanta Falcons
Jarrett left Sunday’s matchup with the Cowboys in the third quarter with an Achilles injury and was ruled out. On Monday, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said that Jarrett is day-to-day.
Erick All Jr. TE, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals’ rookie tight end tore his ACL in Sunday’s win over the Raiders and was ruled out for the remainder of the season. On Tuesday, the Bengals officially placed All and running back Zack Moss on injured reserve.
Lloyd Cushenberry C, Tennessee Titans
Cushenberry tore his Achilles in the third quarter of Tennessee’s win over New England this week and will miss the remainder of the season. Cushenberry is one of the best centers in the league and joined the Titans this offseason.
Rob Havenstein OT, Los Angeles Rams
Havenstein injured his right ankle in the third quarter of Los Angeles’ win over Seattle on Sunday. He did not return to the game. Rams head coach Sean McVey said on Monday that Havenstein will likely miss the Week 10 matchup against Miami.
Quandre Diggs S, Tennessee Titans
Diggs will miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury he endured in Sunday’s overtime victory against New England.
Will Reichard K, Minnesota Vikings
Reichard strained his quad during Sunday night’s win over the Colts and will be placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least four games. Reichard was one of the best kickers in the league before the injury, going 14-for-14 on field goals before Sunday night and 23-for-23 on extra points.
Kolton Miller OT, Las Vegas Raiders
Miller left the Raiders’ Week 9 loss against the Bengals early with an injury to his foot or ankle and did not come back to the game. Tashan Reed of The Athletic reported that Miller was spotted with a walking boot in the locker room after the game. The severity of the injury is unknown, but if it's serious, the Raiders could be without their top two left tackles.
News and Trade Deadline updates:
Saints fire HC Dennis Allen
The Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen on Monday just one day after a 23-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers, marking their seventh straight loss. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi was announced as the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season. In three seasons with the Saints, Allen posted an 18-25 record with no playoff appearances.
Raiders fire OC, other coaches
The Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy along with offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello on Sunday night. The Raiders sit at 2-7 and last place in the AFC West and have struggled offensively all season. On Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Raiders hired well-known offensive coach Norv Turner as a senior advisor and Scott Turner as their new offensive coordinator.
Marshon Lattimore traded to the Commanders
The Commanders traded a 2025 third, fourth and sixth-round pick to the Commanders in exchange for Lattimore and a 2025 fifth-round pick. The Saints sit at 2-7 and are going to be faced with some serious cap space issues this offseason, so moving Lattimore makes sense. The Commanders are currently 7-2 but have struggled in the secondary. Lattimore, who has 15 interceptions and 88 pass breakups in his career, will instantly improve the secondary.
Za’Darius Smith traded to Lions
The Lions traded for Browns defensive end Za’Darius Smith early on the trade deadline day, adding to their pass rush that lost standout Aidan Hutchinson early in the season. Smith will now join his fourth different team since 2019. The Lions gave the Browns a 2025 fifth-rounder and a 2026 sixth-rounder in return for Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick. Smith has 65 sacks in his career.
Mike Williams traded to Pittsburgh
The Steelers have been seeking an upgrade to the wide receiver room for months now and after striking out on several different options, they finally made a move by acquiring Mike Williams. Williams joined the Jets this offseason after being released by the Chargers and saw his role shrink after the Jets traded for Davante Adams. In nine games for the Jets this season, Williams caught 12 passes for 166 yards.
Bengals trade for Khalil Herbert
Herbert was permitted by the Bears to seek a trade after struggling to find reps during the season. On deadline day, the Bengals made a move with the Bears, bringing in Herbert for a 2025 seventh-round pick. The Bengals are slated to be without running back Zack Moss likely for the rest of the season due to a neck injury, so Herbert will fill a void at the position.
Cowboys acquire Jonothan Mingo from Panthers
The Cowboys haven’t had much production at receiver outside of Ceedee Lamb this season, forcing them to make a trade at the deadline. Dallas acquired 2023 second-round pick Jonathan Mingo from Carolina for a 2025 fourth-round pick. Mingo recorded 55 receptions for 539 yards in 24 career games for the Panthers.
Preston Smith heads to Pittsburgh via trade
The Steelers also upgraded their pass rush at the deadline, making a move for Packers defensive lineman Preston Smith. Pittsburgh sent a seventh-round pick to Green Bay for Smith who has 2 ½ sacks this season and 68.5 in his career.
Tre'Davious White goes to Baltimore in late-day deal
With less than an hour until the deadline, the Ravens made a deal with the Rams to acquire Tre'Davious White, who hasn’t played for the Rams in over a month. The Ravens traded a 2026 seventh-round pick for White and a 2027 seventh-round draft selection in the deal. White will give a struggling Ravens secondary more depth when needed.
