Even with six teams on a bye this week, Week 12 in the NFL was one of the most entertaining of the season. From dramatic finshes by the Commadners and Cowboys, an overtime battle between the Vikings and Bears and incredible performances by Saquon Barkely, Week 12 did not disappoint. Before Week 13 starts on Thanksgiving day with a triple-header, here is one last look at the best performances and injury updates from Week 12.
Top Performers:
Saquon Barkley RB, Philadelphia Eagles
Barkley had another monster performance for the Eagles, totaling 302 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s win. Barkley’s yardage totals set single-game records for the Eagles in rushing and scrimmage yards for a single game and his 255 rushing yards were the most in a game since 2009. He now leads the NFL in rushing yards and has worked himself into the MVP conversation.
Tua Tagovailoa QB, Miami Dolphins
Tagovailoa dissected the Patriot defense in Week 12, throwing for 317 yards and four touchdowns. It was the second-most passing yards he’s thrown for this season and the most touchdowns in a single game. Since returning from another scary concussion, Tagovailoa has thrown for 1,277 yards and 11 touchdowns with just one interception.
Josh Jacobs RB, Green Bay Packers
Jacobs was the leader of the offense in Week 12, gashing the 49ers’ defense en route to a 38-10 victory. On 26 carries, Jacobs ran for 106 yards and three touchdowns. It was just his second multiple-score game of the season and his third game with 100 rushing yards or more.
Courtland Sutton WR, Denver Broncos
Sutton has been on a tear as of late and he continued his hot streak against the Raiders. In Week 12, Sutton brought in eight receptions on 10 targets for 97 yards and scored the only two touchdowns of the game for the Broncos. In his last five games, Sutton has at least six receptions for 70 yards or more in each.
Danielle Hunter DE, Houston Texans
A possible sleeper for Defensive Player of the Year, Hunter now has five sacks in his last two games. Against the Titans in Week 12, he took advantage of one of the league’s worst offensive lines, finishing with three sacks and seven total tackles. Hunter now ranks second in the NFL in sacks with 10 ½ on the year.
Jordan Addison WR, Minnesota Vikings
The Bears focused heavily on Justin Jefferson in Sunday’s matchup with the Vikings and rightfully so. But that resulted in the best performance of the season for Jordan Addison. Addison finished the day with eight receptions for 162 yards–both season highs–and one touchdown.
Myles Garrett DE, Cleveland Browns
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year was a game-wrecker Thursday night in Cleveland’s win over the Steelers. Garrett had a season-high three sacks on the night with five total tackles and a forced fumble in the first half of his team’s upset win. Garrett is tied for third in the NFL with 10 sacks and could be making a late-season push for his second DPOY trophy.
Injuries:
David Montgomery RB, Detroit Lions
Montgomery briefly left Detroit’s Week 12 win over Indianapolis with a shoulder injury, going back to the locker room for evaluation before returning to the sideline. Montgomery was a limited participant in practice Tuesday, giving him a good chance to play on Thanksgiving day.
Cedric Tillman WR, Cleveland Browns
Tillman sustained a concussion during Thursday night’s win over the Steelers. He will have to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol to be active in Week 13.
Austin Ekeler RB, Washington Commanders
Ekeler took a hit to the head in the final seconds of Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys and was down for a while before walking off the field with assistance. He was diagnosed with a concussion and taken to a local hospital according to the team. With he and Brian Robinson Jr. banged up, Jeremy McNichols will likely have an increased role in Week 13.
Romeo Doubs WR, Green Bay Packers
Doubs sustained a concussion on Sunday against the 49ers and is currently in the NFL’s concussion protocol. He was listed as a DNP (did not practice) on the Packers’ practice report Tuesday.
Brian Robinson Jr. RB, Washington Commanders
Robinson injured his ankle on the first play for the Commanders and left the game before eventually returning. However, he reaggravated the injury in the second half and did not return, playing only 12 snaps on Sunday (RotoWire).
J.K. Dobbins RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Dobbins went down with a knee injury against the Ravens on Sunday night and was ruled out. Head coach Jim Harbaugh didn’t have an update after the game on Dobbins but it was announced on Tuesday morning that he is dealing with a knee sprain and will miss “some time” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Dobbins will not play in Week 13 against the Falcons, leaving Gus Edwards as the lead back this week and until Dobbins can return.
Brandon Graham DE, Philadelphia Eagles
Graham told reporters in the locker room after Sunday night’s game that he would miss the remainder of the season after tearing his tricep versus the Rams. Graham, 36, announced this summer that this would be his final season in the NFL. He did not say after the game if he had changed his mind on retiring.
Austin Seibert K, Washington Commanders
Seibert was placed on the injured reserve after Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys in which he missed two extra points. He missed the team’s previous two games with a hip injury before returning in Week 12. The Commanders did not clarify if placing Seibert on the IR was related to his previous hip injury or not.
Jermaine Eluemunor OT, New York Giants
Eluemunor left Sunday’s loss to Tampa Bay with a quadriceps injury and was unable to return to the game. With the Giants on a short week–play on Thanksgiving day vs the Cowboys–it may be hard for Eluemunor to get back in the lineup. He was a non-participant at Tuesday’s practice, so his status on Wednesday will be key.
Gardner Minshew QB, Las Vegas Raiders
Minshew suffered a broken collarbone in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos and will miss the remainder of the season. If Aidan O'Connell can return from his thumb injury, he will start in Week 13 against the Chiefs. But if O’Connell remains sidelined, Desmond Ridder will be QB1 for the Raiders on Black Friday.
Darius Slay CB, Philadelphia Eagles
Slay took a hard hit to the head in the second half of Sunday night’s game versus the Rams and was later diagnosed with a concussion. He will have to go through the NFL’s return to play protocol before being cleared for Week 13
Ja’Tavion Sanders TE, Carolina Panthers
Sanders suffered a scary neck injury in Week 12 versus the Chiefs and was stretchered off before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Thankfully, head coach Dave Canales told the media on Tuesday that Sanders avoided a serious neck injury.
Tommy DeVito QB, New York Giants
DeVito is dealing with a forearm injury he sustained during the team’s 30-7 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. On Tuesday, head coach Brian Daboll said that DeVito is “not 100%” to play on Thursday (ESPN). If he’s unable to go, Drew Lock will be in line to start versus the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
Cam Robinson OT, Minnesota Vikings
Robinson left Sunday’s overtime win over Chicago with a foot injury and was ruled out. The former Jaguars tackle was acquired in late Oct. after starter Christin Darrisaw was announced to be out for the season with an injury. If Robinson can’t play in Week 13, the Vikings will be down to their third-string left tackle.
Carlton Davis II CB, Detroit Lions
Davis is dealing with a knee injury he suffered during Sunday's win over the Colts. He did not practice on Monday or Tuesday and it seems unlikely that he will play on Thanksgiving day versus the Bears.
Jalen Pitre S, Houston Texans
Pitre tore his pectoral in Houston’s loss to Tennessee in Week 12 and is expected to miss a couple of weeks. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that Pitre will not need surgery at this time and a return to play this season is still possible.
